How to complete the test
The sample needs to be collected and couriered on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. The night before collection, brush your teeth as normal, but don't use mouthwash. On the morning of collection, don't brush or floss your teeth or use mouthwash. You must also avoid eating, drinking, chewing gum, smoking or drinking coffee. If you need a drink of water, leave 45 minutes before completing the test, so it is best to just complete it as soon as you wake up.
Rub one of the swabs firmly around the inside of your right or left cheek (one swab for each side of your mouth) then insert the swab into one of the two small vials, keeping the fluid inside. Snap off the tip of the shaft into the vial before securing the lid tightly. Repeat with the other swab on the other side of your mouth. Place the two vials into the padded white envelope and send using the prepaid courier bag, being sure to also include the completed test request form.
Please note that the laboratory has recently transitioned from using NZ Couriers to NZ Post for the pre-paid courier bag which is included in the test kit. If you have a red NZ Couriers bag, please drop the samples at your nearest NZ Couriers depot, which you can find here https://www.nzcextras.co.nz/nearestlocation. Please note that Post Shops will not accept NZ Couriers packages.
If you have a white NZ Post courier bag, please drop the samples at your nearest NZ Post Shop or depot which can be found here https://www.nzpost.co.nz/tools/find-nz-post
Ignore the 'Pre 8am' sticker on the courier bag, which is just for the courier's attention. There is no need to be concerned about the courier company refrigerating or freezing the sample while in transit.
